Georgian Padlock Locket Brooch c.1800
A fabulous Georgian padlock locket brooch.
The locked which is designed as a padlock is set with seed pearls and fancy goldwork 'suns' around the edge.
The locket section encloses gold ropework initials 'RMW' against a silk backing. The 'padlock' has a ropetwist top and 2 small chains attached ending in a heart and a cross indicating faith and charity. There is a pendant loop and a brooch fitting to the reverse.
The brooch has a later insciption dated 'Jan 17th 1908'. This unusual piece may have originally been a Georgian betrothal gift and then again later in 1908. It is in wonderful condition.
