An unusual late Georgian carved coral 5 stone ring.
 
This fabulous ring has 5 carved corals in a claw setting. The corals are carved as a central rose, with an ivy leaf and forget me nots to the sides. Each of the flowers would have been carved with a specific meaning - the rose for purity, ivy for wedded love and the forget me not to remind the wearer.  
 
These lovely coral cabochons are a orange/red colour and beautifully matched. 
 
It's finely made with repoussee work with a flower and leaf design on the sides and shoulders, the ring is closed at the reverse making it very smooth to wear. 
 
This lovely antique ring has a beautiful inscribtion to the inside which reads 'A token of esteem from R.M to R.J 1829. Fenton, Fair Ruth is thine.'  The ring is in fabulous condition. 
 
The coral would have come from Naples which was a popular tourist destination in the early 1800s when the English went on their Grand Tour.  Coral was believed to have a protective quality and was a popular choice for jewellery at this time.
