A late Victorian Fly Brooch
The brooch has a stylised Fly set with a pearl abdomen and a diamond thorax, the fly has pearl wings and is beautifully made. Images of flies on ancient gems were a talisman against evil. It is also a symbol of courage and strength – brave soldiers in ancient times were awarded gold flies.
