This beautiful sentimental brooch would have been made to give as a gift to a loved one to signifiy that the giver was in the Navy.
The brooch is engraved to the reverse 'Lilly from Fred 11.2.1904'
Sweetheart brooches have been popular since the early 20th century and were given to wives, mothers and girlfriends by servicemen as mementos and reminders of the absent loved one.
