Edwardian Owl Brooch c.1910
£895.00
A quirky Edwardian novelty owl brooch.
The brooch made in red and yellow gold is designed as an owl sitting in an oak tree branch. The owl has cabochon garnet eyes.
Traditionally, the owl is a symbol of wisdom, truth, patience, foresight and knowledge. This dates back to ancient Greece. Athenians celebrated the owl as a symbol of wisdom because they considered it to be an emblem of Athena, the goddess of foresight and knowledge. To this day, we associate the owl with intellect and learning.
The brooch has a sprung pin on the reverse with a safety catch.
