Antique Owl Brooch

Edwardian Owl Brooch c.1910

SKU: BR122

A novelty Edwardian Owl brooch.

The brooch with a realistic 3 dimensional gold owl sitting on a yellow gold bar. The owl has white enamelled eyes each set with a small rosecut diamond and a textured design.

Owls have long been associated with wisdom, this dates back to ancient Greece. Athenians celebrated the owl as a symbol of wisdom because they considered it to be an emblem of Athena, the goddess of foresight and knowledge. To this day we associate the owl with intellect and learning.

This quirky brooch is mounted in a rich yellow gold and has a white gold sprung pin to the reverse.
