Diamond Royal Air Force Sweetheart Brooch c.1977
A beautiful vintage diamond and enamel RAF Wings Sweetheart Brooch.
The brooch is beautifully made with a secure hinged pin fastening with scrolled closure. The RAF motif is set with small diamonds and the wreath and the crown are enamelled.
This brooch is gold and has been rhodium plated to make it white in appearance. We assume this was as a silver jubilee refernce as the brooch dates to the year of Queen Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee in 1977.
Sweetheart brooches have been popular since the early 20th century and were given to wives, mothers and girlfriends by servicemen as mementos and reminders of the absent loved one. They were worn to show pride in having a sweetheart who was serving his country. They were made for every budget from base metal to platinum and designs were made for every aspect of the military.
