Edwardian Diamond Drop Earrings c.1920
ER153
£1,500.00
A wearable pair of Edwardian diamond earrings.
The earrings each with a small diamond to the top and a larger diamond drop each mounted in a fine hand made coronet setting. The setting gives the illusion that the diamond is larger than it actually is.
The earrings have sprung hook (sleeper) fittings for pierced ears. The setting is open to the reverse and the lager diamond is individually articulated so that the earrings have a movement when worn.
This style of earring is known as 'dormeuse' after the French popularised the setting at the end of the 19th century. This setting was designed to be left the ear overnight hence the word 'dormeuse' or 'sleeper.'
Era: Edwardian, c.1901 - 1920
Measurements: Earrings 1.4cm in length,
total diamond weight estimated 0.60 carats (pair)
