Edwardian Diamond Drop Earrings, French c.1910
ER154
£2,350.00
A classic pair of Edwardian diamond drop earrings.
These elegant earrings have three graduated old cut diamonds each mounted in a scalloped cut-back setting giving the illusion of larger stones.
The earrings have sprung hook (sleeper) fittings for pierced ears. The setting is open to the reverse and the two larger diamonds are individually articulated so that the earrings have a lovely movement when worn.
This style of earring is known as 'dormeuse' after the French popularised the setting at the end of the 19th century. This setting was designed to be left the ear overnight hence the word 'dormeuse' or 'sleeper.'
These earrings have been rhodium plated at some point making the metal a bright white in colour and are perfect for everyday wear.
Era: Edwardian, c.1901 - 1920
Measurements: Earrings 2.2 cm in length.
Total diamond weight estimated 1.10 carats (pair) H colour
Hallmarks: French marks for 18ct gold & platinum
