Edwardian Spider Brooch c.1910
BR208
£0.00
A fabulous Edwardian novelty spider brooch.
The gold brooch with an amethyst abdomen and peridot body has realistically modelled legs with engraved detailing. The 'spider' has little rubies set as eyes and is beautifully made. All the gemtones are in a fine rubover setting with a milgrain edge, open to the reverse.
The colours of the gemstones used may have been chosen due to the rise at this time of the Suffragette movement. These soft colours we also believed to be the favourite colours of Queen Alexandria and as such were very popular during the Edwardian era.
This wonderful brooch is in excellent condition and is stamped 15CT to the reverse, It has a sprung pin fitting typical of the era.
