A beautiful Victorian large diamond set flying swallow brooch by Goldsmiths and Silversmiths of London.
The swallow was seen as a symbol of enduring love and loyalty and was a popular subject in jewellery during the Victorian and Edwardian eras.
The swallow is realistically detailed with small ruby eyes and engraved details to the sides, the brooch is open to the back allowing light into the diamonds.
The brooch has a gold pin and handmade safety fitting to the reverse together with a screw fitting hole indicating is once might have been worn also as a hairpiece.
Era: Victorian c.1839 - 1901
Measurements: Brooch 3.5cm in length, 3.0cm at wdest point, 7.0 grams in weight. Total diamond weight estimated 1.5 carats
Hallmarks: Unmarked - tests as silver and 15ct gold
