Edwardian Rose-Diamond Cluster Earrings circa 1910
£2,500.00
An elegant pair of Edwardian rose-cut diamond dormeuse earrings.
These stylish earrings have a small rose-cut diamond set at the top above a rose-cut diamond cluster. Each cluster has a larger rose-cut diamond at the centre within a border of 8 smaller rose-cut diamonds in a classic cluster design.
The central diamond is set slightly higher, and all the diamonds are mounted in a coronet setting open to the reverse with a beautiful grooved underbezel. The front of the earrings are overlaid in platinum onto rose gold backs, typical of this style.
Rose-cut diamonds are facetted at the top and flat on the underside and have a subtle sparkle. They are one of the earliest 'cuts' of diamonds and were widely used in Victorian and Edwardian jewellery.
The earrings have sprung hook (sleeper) fittings for pierced ears. This style of earring is referred to as 'dormeuse' after the French popularised the setting at the end of the 19th century. This setting was designed to be left in the ear overnight, hence the word 'dormeuse' or 'sleeper.'
They are perfect for everyday wear and perfect for taking you from day to night and any occasion.
We believe these earrings are French in origin but have lost their hallmarks at some point.
