Georgian Rose Diamond Cluster Ring c.1780

A rare late 18th-century Georgian rose diamond ring.
This highly unusual ring has a large central pointed rose-cut diamond set within a border of smaller rose-cut diamonds forming a cluster in a silver cut-down setting (closed to the reverse).
The ring has three further rose-cut diamonds in a trefoil motif to each shoulder. The ring has a central narrow gold band which has an unusual gilt metal chased further band to each side, making a wide band to the reverse.
The closed setting is typical of the Georgian era and sits low to the hand. We have never seen a ring of this construction before, with gold, silver and gold-cased metal all used together. We can only assume that the ring was made with the materials that the goldsmith had to hand at the time. Making a ring of this construction would have been incredibly skilful and time-consuming. It cannot be sized up due to its construction - it might be possible to add in a sleeve or beads to size it down if required. Get in touch with any questions.
This ring, in common with the vast majority of Georgian pieces is a dress ring and will not take 'heavy' wear being over 200 years old. It is not advisable to get this ring wet due to the closed setting. Rings of this age and in this condition are increasingly hard to find.
