A fabulous large Royal Air Force diamond sweetheart brooch.

 

This wonderful brooch is made in white gold  with a diamond set RAF motif set onto a green enameled gold laurel wreath under a red enamelled Kings crown. The realistically detailed feathered wings are set with diamonds.  There is an integral roller safety clasp to the pin keeping it safe when worn.

 

The brooch is in wonderful condition and an fabulous example due to its size. It comes in a fitted case by Asprey & Co Ltd and has the original receipt for the purchase of the brooch dated 21.2.66 from Asprey & Co, London for the sum of £225. 

 

Sweetheart brooches have been popular since the early 20th century and were originally given to wives, mothers and girlfriends by servicemen as mementos and reminders of the absent loved one. They were worn to show pride in having a sweetheart who was serving his country.

 

The brooches were made for every budget from base metal to platinum and designs were made for every aspect of the military.
