Victorian Amethyst & Enamel Mourning Ring c.1848
An unusual Victorian amethyst & enamel ring.
This stylish ring has a central elongated table cut amethyst in a closed (probably foiled) gold cut down setting within a black enamel border. The ring has a closed back echoing earlier Georgian design. The ring has fancy enamelled shoulders with a stylised gothic design running down the shank. The design is reminiscent of the Pugin style popular at the time.
The ring sits low to the hand and is in good conditon with very slight wear to the enamel on the shoulders as would be expected in a piece of this age. Due to the design we would suggest that this ring is not suitable for heavy everyday wear.
