Victorian Ruby and Diamond Rub Over Ring c.1900
£4,250.00
This lovely antique ring has a central bright red ruby with an old cut diamond to each side, each mounted in a rub over setting, open to the reverse, to a smooth, wide gold band.
The ring is crafted in buttery yellow gold and has a slightly tapered band to the reverse, as is typical of the era.
This ring is beautifully low-set to the hand and easy to wear. It is perfect for everyday use and would make a wonderful engagement ring or stacking band.
A rub over setting has the gemstone placed in a circle of metal, which is then held around it to catch all the sides of the gem at its widest point. It creates a very secure setting, which is easy to wear and doesn't catch, as the stones are not claw set.
Era: Victorian, 1839 - 1901
Measurements: Ruby estimated 0.50 carats, excellent colour (assessed as Burma in origin), slight wear to facets consistent with age.
Total diamond weight estimated 0.70 carats, assessed as H/I colour, vs clarity.
The ring weighs 7.9 grams and is 6.4mm in width.
Ring Size: L (UK) 6 (US) 51½ (EUR). This ring can be resized by our goldsmith at no extra cost, but with limitations due to the design
