A fabulous mid-century gold owl brooch.
This quirky brooch has been designed as a stylised owl with one round cut sapphire eye and one marquise cut ‘winking’ sapphire eye.
The 3-dimensional brooch is made in gold with wirework 'feathers' to the body. The wings and feet are also decorated with textured feathers.
The back is of a hollow domed construction with a pin and roller safety catch. The brooch is signed by the London maker T. O'Donoghue.
T. O'Donoghue was established by Thomas O'Donoghue in 1951, and by the 1960s and 70s had earned an outstanding reputation for quality craftsmanship, counting Buckingham Palace among its clientele. It is now a third-generation jeweller based in Hatton Garden.
