Antique Diamond Dormeuse Earrings c.1910
ER140
£5,950.00
An elegant pair of Edwardian diamond dormeuse earrings.
These stylish earrings have an old cut diamond to the top in a claw setting with a larger old cut diamond hanging below. The larger diamond is mounted in a scalloped cut-back setting giving the illusion of a larger stone.
The earrings have sprung hook (sleeper) fittings for pierced ears. The setting is open to the reverse and the larger diamond is individually articulated so that the earrings have beautiful movement when worn.
This style of earring is known as 'dormeuse' after the French popularised the setting at the end of the 19th century. This setting is designed to be left the ear overnight hence the word 'dormeuse' or 'sleeper.'
The front of the earrings are overlaid in platinum with yellow gold backs again typical of this style. These earrings are perfect for everyday wear.
