Art Nouveau Diamond and Pearl Pendant c.1890
£4,950.00
An elegant late Victorian pearl and diamond brooch/pendant.
A versatile piece of jewellery, this beautiful piece is set with small old-cut diamonds in repeated floral motifs around a central pearl. The pendant is suspended from a detachable diamond-set fleur-de-lys design bail. The piece has a further articulated section suspending a pearl to the base, which moves beautifully when worn.
The pendant has a 2-piece brooch fitting with safety clasp, which can be removed when worn as a pendant. This allows the pendant to be converted to be worn as a brooch.
The pendant is finely mounted in silver and 18 carat gold open to the reverse, typical of the era, and has a fabulous shaped fitted box from the original retailer Maurice Moses of London.
Era: Victorian, 1837 - 1901
Measurements: Total diamond weight estimated 1.0 carats
Pearls 4.8 mm and 5.7mm diameter (untested, assumed natural saltwater).
Pendant 4.7cm in length, 3.0cm at the widest point.
Hallmarks: No assay marks, tests as silver and 18 carat gold
