A beautiful late Victorian sapphire heart locket/pendant.
This stylish pendant has a bright blue oval sapphire mounted at the centre of the heart-shaped locket. The locket has a glazed compartment to the reverse with a silk liner.
The locket is crafted in a warm yellow gold with a runner ring fitting to the top to thread a chain or ribbon. It is in great condition and would be beautiful as a pendant or charm.
It does not have a chain, but we can provide one if required (at an additional charge).
The side of the locket is engraved with 'MC GC AC 1872 1896 EC' and a crown detail.
We have researched the initials and dates and believe it may relate to the Coleridge family who were a prominent 19th-century title family (Baron) and had members whose names began with M, G, A, and E.
Era: Victorian, 1837 - 1901
Measurements: Heart 1.7cm (5/8") in length, 1.5cm at widest point.
Sapphire estimated 1 carat, Sri Lankan in origin
Pendant weighs 2.8 grams
Hallmarks: Pendant with no assay marks - tests as 9ct gold
