Georgian Pearl and Diamond Pansy Ring c.1780
£1,750.00
A fabulous Georgian pearl 'pansy' ring.
This beautifully handmade ring has a central tiny rose-cut diamond set within 5 natural pearls to represent a pansy flower. The shoulders are elegantly figured with a scrolled foliate design onto an unusual, grooved and curved shank.
The ring has a locket concealed behind the head with a lock of finely plaited hair inside. In common with this Regency design, the ring is very low-set to the hand.
We believe that the pearls are original. They are beautifully matched, ivory in colour with a great lustre.
In the Georgian era, the pansy design was used to refer to the French pensée "think of me" and this ring would have been a lover's gift. This ring, in common with the vast majority of Georgian pieces, will not take 'heavy' wear, being over 200 years old. Rings of this age are increasingly hard to find. It is not advisable to get this ring wet due to the closed setting and locket back.
Rings of this age and in this fabulous condition are increasingly hard to find.
