Victorian Silver & Two Colour Gold Overlay Locket c.1880
£500.00
An elegant Victorian 'Aesthetic Movement' oval locket.
The locket has yellow and rose gold overlay detail to the front depicting morning glory blossoms and ivy leaves. The morning glories symbolise the fleeting nature of life, and the ivy leaves symbolise everlasting affection, overall symbolising devotion and remembrance.
The locket has a scalloped edge with beaded detailing and a plain back.
There is a concealed hinge to one side of the locket and a large articulated bail to the top. The locket has two compartments inside with the photo holders and their silk backing perfect for two photos. These lockets were often worn on collars of a similar design, today they look fabulous on a medium length silver chain or cord.
The locket is in beautiful condition and is incredibly stylish to wear.
The Aesthetic Movement celebrated ‘art for art’s sake,’ separate of any historic motifs or meanings.
