An elegant Victorian silver 'Aesthetic Movement' oval locket.
An aesthetic movement oval locket. The locket with gold overlay detail to the front depicting an Edelweiss flower spray. The locket has a beaded detailing to the edge and a plain back with a grooved edge.
There is a concealed hinge to one side of the locket and a large articulated bail to the top. The locket has two compartments inside with the photo holders and their silk backing perfect for two photos.
Alpine legends say that those who find an edelweiss on the mountains are destined to live a long and prosperous life, and the flower is a talisman against bad luck. The plant is also a symbol of courage.
The locket is in beautiful condition and incredibly stylish to wear.
The Aesthetic Movement celebrated ‘art for art’s sake,’ separate of any historic motifs or meanings.
