Edwardian Sapphire & Diamond Crossover Ring c.1920
A stylish Edwardian sapphire & diamond 2 stone crossover ring.
This beautiful ring has a cushion cut sapphire and an old cut diamond in a classic twist design.
The sapphire is a beautiful rich blue in colour, complemented by the white old cut diamond. The sapphire is claw set in yellow gold while the diamonds are all set in platinum as was typical of the Edwardian era. This beautiful ring has 5 diamonds spitch set into each shoulder in a platinum milgrain setting. The shank has a simple slight reeded design to the top half onto a plain back.
Typical of the Edwardian era, the stones are finely rub-over set with a beautiful handmade underbezel. We believe it might be French in origin (due to the design) and has lost its oroginal hallmarks through sizing in the past.
The ring is low set to the hand and in excellent condition. It is perfect for everyday wear and would make a fabulous engagement ring.
This design is also known as a "toi et moi" 'you and me' with the two stones representing two hearts or souls entwined. It was popularised in the late 18th Century by Napoleon who gave his wife Josephine a sapphire & diamond ring of a similar design as an engagement ring.
