A fabulous Georgian ouroborus locket brooch.
The brooch with a gold realistically figured serpent wound around a central locket compartment containing a lock of plaited hair.
The serpent has beautifully engraved scales and head and is believed to represent eternity, the cycle of life and renewal.
The brooch is closed to the reverse with a simple sprung pin, typical of the Georgian era and is in wonderful condition.
Items like this are increasingly difficult to find in such good condition.
Era: Georgian, 1714 - 1837
Measurements: The brooch is 2.9cm in length 2.9cm, 1.5cm at the widest point.
