Royal Society of Medicine Brooch
A cased 9ct gold enamel Royal Society of Medicine bar brooch, by Garrard & Co. Ltd.
The brooch depicts an enamelled 'all heal' plant, the Royal Society of Medicine's crest, set between green champlevé enamel ivy leaves, with a rope below, to a flat section bar with roller catch.
The crest consists of three sprigs of the 'all-heal' plant arising from the crest wreath. This plant was documented by the17th century herballist Nicholas Culpeper (1616-54) who listed its therapeutic virtues.
