Victorian Horseshoe & Crescent Brooch c.1900
£0.00
A beautiful Victorian Horseshoe Brooch.
This wonderful brooch is set with perfect natural seed pearls in a stylish design of a crescent running through a horseshoe with laurel leaves sprayed beneath.
It has an intricate handmade scalloped gallery to the reverse and is closed the back with each pearl individually set to the front. It is in beautiful condition.
Laurel references glory and achievement, the crescent is for spirituality and the horseshoe good luck. Opinion is divided as to which way up the horseshoe ought to point. Some say the ends should point up, so that the horseshoe catches the luck; others say they should point down, so that the luck is poured upon those around the wearer.
There is a handmade pin to the reverse which is sprung allowing a good fit when being worn.
