Victorian Ruby and Pearl Locket c.1880

A beautiful 18ct gold Victorian oval locket.
The front of the locket has an oval facetted ruby to the centre in a star setting within a raised diamond section. This is surrounded by a seed pearl set 'fleur de lys' cross motif. The pearls are all individually mounted within grain settings. The locket has the most wonderful engraved scrollwork pattern to the reverse.
The locket opens to reveal a glazed compartment to one side and a silk to the other. The compartment is perfect for a photograph.
The locket is 18ct yellow gold with its original gilding 'bloom' giving it a matt finish and is in beautiful conditon. There is a large tapered bail to the top allowing for the locket to be hung from a ribbon or chain.
Era: Victorian, 1839 - 1901
Measurements: Locket 3.6cm (1 3/8") long, 2.8cm (1 1/8") wide, 15.5 grams in weight.
Bail 1.2cm (1/2") long.
Hallmarks: No assay marks - locket and bail tests as 18ct gold
