Art Nouveau Opal Ring c.1905
£3,450.00
A rare Art Nouveau opal ring.
The ring has a cabochon opal in a rubover setting to the centre, held in place by two gold winged figures representing the goddess Nike. These form the shoulders of the ring.
The shoulders flow onto a plain shank and is very low set to the finger typical of the era, it has been made for a larger finger and as such the ring has some restrictions for sizing. We cannot size this lower than N (UK) 7 (US) 54 (EUR).
The opal is a lovely colour with a good play of 'fire'. As opal is a softer stone, we would not recommend it for 'heavy' wear. We are happy to discuss suitability further - just get in touch.
The goddess Nike represents victory. She is symbolised by her wings, representing speed and triumph, and a wreath in her hair, embodying success in art, music, war, and athletics.
Era: Edwardian, 1901 - 1920

Opal estimated 0.50 carats
Ring Size: Q (UK) 8 1/4 (US) 58 (EUR) This ring can be resized but with limitations due to the design
