Georgian Amethyst and Turquoise Comet Brooch c.1790
A pretty small Georgian comet brooch modelled with a foiled pale amethyst head surrounded by a gold scrollwork border and a small turquoise set within the 'tail.' The brooch is closed set to reverse, typical of the Georgian era. Comet references were popular in jewellery at this time following the appearance of Halley's Comet in 1758/9 and then again in 1835.
