Victorian Lovers Knot Ring c.1896
A fabulous Victorian lover's knot ring.
This lovely ring has a twisted gold band and a plain gold band joined and intertwined as a lovers know to the top. The ring has a double gold band to either side and is beautifully low set to the hand. It is fully hallmarked for Chester 1896 with a makers stamp which we havent been able to trace.
The knot has no beginning and no end, which can never be undone. It was seen as symbol of infinite love and the unbreakable bond between lovers or friends, the lover’s knot is believed to have originated with sailors in the 1800s, who would wear a love knot bracelet woven out of rope as a reminder of their loved ones when they were away from home.
The ring is made from a warm 18ct gold with a rich colour. The ring is in superb condition.
