Penguin Brooch by Köchert c.1950
An unusual and quirky carved penguin brooch
This stylised design is typical of the animal and bird jewellery that was so popular in the 1950's.
The penguin is realistically figured from carved chalcedony (a blue-ish form of quartz) and set with a cabochon ruby as an eye and 18ct gold wings, beak and feet. The brooch is beautiful quality and in wonderful condition.
The brooch was made by Köchert who are one of Austria's premier jewellers. A. E. Köchert is one of the oldest jewellers in Austria, founded by Jakob Heinrich Köchert in 1814. It is a family business based in Vienna and is known as the "Jeweler of the Emperors and King"
