Diamond Ring Lapponia c.1974
A stylish vintage unisex diamond solitaire ring.
This unusual ring is designed by Björn Weckström for Lapponia and has yellow and white gold textured squares with a diamond set to the white gold one. The head of the ring sits on a stem above the plain band highlighting the differences in texure and form.
The ring is wonderfully hallmarked for both designer and manufacturer and date stamped - it is in fabulous condition.
Björn Weckström is a Finnish sculptor and jewelry designer. He graduated from Helsinki Goldsmith’s school in 1956. He is well known for using rough matt surfaces, uncut semi-precious stones and asymmetrical forms in his jewellery designs with his inspiration coming often from nature.
Probably the best-known piece of Weckström’s jewelry is the Planetoid Valleys necklace which Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) wore in George Lucas’ film Star Wars in 1977.
