Georgian Carnelian Heart Locket circa.1820
£1,750.00
A fabulous early 19th century carnelian heart shaped pendant set with a glazed locket to the centre.
This sentimental love token is carved out of a solid piece of rich orange red carnelian with a gold locket counterset to the centre. The locket would probably have originally contained the hair of the loved one but now contains a patch of silk.
The glass is set within a milled wire setting and a wider gold border. The reverse is centred by a gold disc. Unusually the heart is drilled twice to accommodate two gold rings to thread a chain or ribbon through.
Carnelian was popular for day jewellery in the early 19th century.
The heart is in fabulous condition and is English in origin.
