Georgian Fede Locket Ring c.1820
£2,500.00
A rare Regency era turquoise and diamond locket ring.
The ring has elegant open scrollwork shoulders onto a reeded shank and is low set to the hand.
Finely chased hands hold a Persian turquoise and diamond set pansy with a hinged locket compartment, opening to reveal the memento of a tiny glazed panel with the hair of the beloved.
Hand motifs were a popular romantic symbol in Georgian jewellery, the clasped hands called "fede" from ‘mani in fede’(hands joined in faith) representing friendship, love, and betrothal. Turquoise was frequently used in Georgian jewellery to represent 'forget-me-not.'
The ring has its original glazed locket under the head with a lock of hair. This was typical of the Georgian era and it is in wonderful condition.
This ring, in common with the vast majority of Georgian pieces is a dress ring and will not take 'heavy' wear being over 240 years old. Rings of this age and in this excellent condition are increasingly hard to find.
